CHARACTER NAME: Jon Snow
CANON: Game of Thrones
TIMELINE: 302 AC, just after his death at Castle Black (end of season 5)
AGE: 20
REFERENCE: Wiki Link here
PERSONALITY: Jon is a complex character when it comes to personality because of his upbringing. He was raised by Ned Stark, so he was raised with a good moral compass and a sense of honor that has guided a lot of his decisions over his life. Both of these were taken to heart as he grew up because, as a bastard child alongside his lawful half-siblings, Jon tried to do his best to stay out of trouble so as not to gain the ire of his step-mother Catelyn. She didn't take an active role in his life, choosing to ignore him for the most part instead. Though she didn't exactly hide the fact that she didn't like Ned's choice to raise him in Winterfell with the other children either. It left him always trying to be fairly on his best behavior because he didn't want to give her any reason to be mad or punish him.
Because of being so aware of his actions and his consequences, he also grew up a lot faster than he really should have. While Robb loved him like a true born brother and the two were childhood playmates together, going so far as to occasionally play pranks on Sansa and Arya and the younger brothers, he didn't always take it as far as Robb, and Theon, might because he was always aware that his punishment be a lot harder than theirs.
Being a bastard meant being more of part of the scenery when anyone important came to Winterfell, not one of the children introduced as part of House Stark. It left him adept at paying attention to his surroundings, taking in information that others occasionally missed and plan around things. It did occasionally give him the advantage because like maids and servants, people would occasionally talk in a room like he wasn't there, because to a point, he didn't matter. Not that any of this landed easily on Jon's shoulders either.
While Robb, and later Arya, tried to make him feel part of the family, as did Ned when he could, always knowing he wasn't lawfully part of the family weighted Jon down a lot. Unless out with Robb or training Arya, Jon was a fairly quiet boy growing up. He knew how to keep his mouth shut, he knew his opinions or thoughts weren't welcome most of the time, and in some ways he knew by some people he wasn't wanted. It left him with a deep desire to never do this to a child himself, so he swore he'd never father a bastard himself.
He also doesn't smile too much, often stoic or serious instead because he doesn't see the joy in life that others get to see or enjoy. Being a bastard and raised with Ned instead of a mother or another family, he knows full well that he has nothing to his name save the clothes on his back, the sword he was gifted while he was in the Night's Watch, and his companion Ghost who is less a possession and more a bonded companion. It's not that he can't smile, but he doesn't know how to relax and enjoy what life has to offer because he's never been in a position to be able to do so.
As for women, before his time with Ygritte during his time in the Black, he'd never been with anyone or even courted a woman before. Overall, even after that experience, he might be a little shy around women when it comes to affection. He's also coming in after the fact that he'd let himself feel what he thinks is love, only to have that backfire in his face spectacularly by them being on the opposite sides of a war and her dying because of it, that he's not sure that he really wants that anymore either. Though buried deep, he's seen Ned be sweet and romantic to Catelyn growing up, so he does have that ability to be that way. He's just not sure he wants to risk liking someone after the pain of losing them again.
ABILITIES:
— Skilled fighter - while still in a human capacity, Jon's extremely skilled with a sword and fighting. He's been training since he was small, and has survived several battles because of his skill.
— Good strategist - Jon's good at taking a look at what's on the table and hashing out a plan. Most of his plans, if listened to, work out fairly well for those involved.
— Warging - It's shown more in the books, but the Starks as a family tend to carry the ability to enter the minds of animals and perceive the world through their senses and even control their actions. Bran is the predominant Stark shown with this ability in the show though it's hinted at once or twice when Jon is unconscious and Ghost is particularly vicious about people approaching the sleeping body that it might be Jon protecting himself. However, it's a strongly untapped ability that he's not even fully aware he has either. It's only ever happened with Ghost - who he's incredibly close with - while he's asleep usually.
PERSONAL EFFECTS:
— Leathers and fur cloak that he's wearing.
— Longclaw, his sword, as well as two daggers stashed on his person
— Ghost - a snow white dire wolf with red eyes, being brought in as Jon's companion
PRIZED POSSESSION: Longclaw - A valyrian steel sword with a wolf pommel.
